Description

2020 SILVER MEDAL
at AVPA 3rd "Teas of the World" International Contest
"Steamed Green Teas" category

Origin: Japan - Kagoshima prefecture - Kyushu Island

Terroir : Kagoshima prefecture is renowned for its organic teas.

Species: Camelia sinensis sinensis

Cultivar: Asanoka

Harvest: Spring 2024 - first harvest

Production method: This tea undergoes a short steeping process, giving it lovely, long, needle-shaped leaves of light and dark jade color. It has been shaded for 10 days.

Special feature: Biodynamically grown spring tea.

History: Arnaud Dhenin met the producer, Mr. Hayashi, during his trip in April 2019, and was able to discuss his biodynamic growing methods. The plantation has been family-run for 3 generations, handed down from father to son.

Aromatic profile: A full-bodied tea, with a beautiful aromatic complexity between vegetal, iodized and cooked vegetable notes, typical of this early tea, all in subtlety. A rich, well-balanced spring tea with a sweet Umami flavor and a long, refreshing, smooth finish. A magnificent discovery.
- Flavor: Discreet umami - sweet with a long finish
- Texture: Round - slightly oily and powdery.
- Notes : Vegetal, mineral, marine (seawater), cooked spinach, cooked white fish, fresh return, long-lasting fresh fruit.

Our preparation advice: Prefer very soft spring water for Japanese teas (<40mg/l dry residue).

This is the tea for you if :
- you're looking for a quality green tea to make with kyusu
- you're looking for a green tea leaf that resembles matcha
- you're already a fan of Japanese tea and are looking to discover some of the greats
- you're looking for a refreshing hot tea for hot days
