Description

2023 BRONZE MEDAL at AVPA 6th "Teas of the World" International Contest
"steamed green teas" category

Origin: Japan - Kagoshima - Kyushu Island - town of Kirishima

Terroir: Kagoshima prefecture is renowned for its organic teas.

Species: Camelia sinensis sinensis

Cultivar: Tsuyuhikari (“Dew Light”)

Harvest: Spring 2024 - first flush

Production method: A long steeping process. Japanese green tea from the first harvest of 2024, it has not been shaded.

Speciality: Spring tea.

History: Grown according to organic farming principles on Kyushu Island in Kagoshima Prefecture by Mr. Henta, this tea comes from fairly young tea bushes (around 6 years old) that Arnaud helped plant during a previous trip to Japan in 2018 (young tea shoots are planted at around 2 years old).

Aromatic profile: A powerful, full-bodied tea, with a lovely oily texture and a long-lasting umami flavor. This year, there's a little more roasting, which brings pleasant cereal notes and a slight acidity that creates an impression of freshness, complemented by a light floral note. There are also lovely vegetal and fruity notes. A rich, complex tea offering all the depth of Japanese spring teas.
- Taste: sweet, umami in length
- Texture: oily
- Notes : Fresh vegetal, mild roasting, buttery, fruity, coconut, lightly floral, aromatic grassy in length.

Our preparation advice: Prefer very soft spring water for Japanese teas (<40mg/l dry residue). Prepare with delicacy, like a Gyokuro.

This is the tea for you if..:
- you're looking for a quality green tea to be made with kyusu
- you're looking for a green tea leaf that resembles matcha
- you're already a fan of Japanese tea and are looking to discover some of the Grand Crus.
- you're looking for a refreshing hot tea for hot days
